Axminster carpets are a type of machine-woven carpet named after the Axminster region in England, where the production technique originated.

The Axminster technique adapts the knotting methods of Oriental carpets. Using machinery, the pile yarn is first cut to a specified length, then secured between the carpet's warp threads using a "U"-shaped or "J"-shaped tufting method. The weft yarns then anchor the pile, ensuring no loose yarns hang on the carpet's back. Axminster carpets feature only cut pile, not loop pile.

Axminster carpets boast a flat, full surface with a luxurious style, meeting international commercial heavyweight carpet standards. They offer exceptional appearance retention, durability, stability, and comfort, ensuring long-lasting performance. Axminster carpets can be decorated in up to 16 colors. Due to their specialized weaving technique, they possess a dense structure and excellent dimensional stability, making them particularly suitable for high-end public spaces such as hotel restaurants, corridors, banquet halls, bars, conference rooms, and other mid-to-high-end communal areas.

Specifically, they offer the following advantages:

1. Exceptional dimensional stability.

Cormier carpets are crafted from 80% premium wool and 20% nylon. Wool, a natural protein fiber, possesses inherent properties such as superior moisture absorption, excellent crimp, overlapping scales, and easy dyeing. These characteristics grant Axminster carpets stability and performance unmatched by synthetic fiber carpets.

2. Exceptional stain resistance.

Under stable temperature and humidity conditions, wool fibers maintain a standard moisture regain of 15%-meaning they absorb 15% moisture at 22°C and 65–70% relative humidity. This superior physical property gives Axminster carpets excellent conductivity, minimizing static electricity buildup during use. Wool's moisture absorption properties also prevent dust particles from adhering to the carpet, resulting in outstanding stain resistance.

3. Excellent elasticity.

Wool fibers possess natural crimp, allowing them to stretch up to 30% without breaking. This provides exceptional elasticity and resilience, creating a comfortable underfoot feel.

4. Superior flame resistance.

Wool carpets possess a high ignition point due to their moisture absorption properties. Under normal conditions, they resist ignition by open flames, exhibiting natural flame-retardant, difficult-to-ignite, and self-extinguishing characteristics that fully meet national fire safety standards. As wool fibers are protein-based, while cigarette butts may leave scorch marks upon contact, these marks can be easily removed by gently rubbing the affected area.

5. Easy to clean.

Wool fibers are covered with scales on the outer layer, combined with wool's high moisture regain rate, making the carpet generally resistant to staining. Due to the function of these scales, wool carpets are exceptionally easy to clean.

6. Superior abrasion resistance and rigidity.

Nylon fibers offer the best abrasion resistance and excellent elasticity. Their tightly structured macromolecules provide aging resistance and resilience. Nylon fibers have excellent dye-binding properties, achieving vibrant colors at room temperature with standard dyes while maintaining strong colorfastness.

Axminster carpets blended with nylon and wool fully showcase the excellent elastic recovery of carpets. This blend maximizes the advantages of both fibers while compensating for their respective shortcomings. Therefore, high-end woolen machine-woven carpets typically incorporate 20% nylon fiber to enhance quality, increase abrasion resistance, and extend service life.
